The FujiFilm X100 Experience

Stacks Image 52
This page is dedicated to my experiences with the X100. It might get a bit technical and nerdy. But i don't think you would read this, if you weren't interested ;)

Why the X100

First of all - I didn't buy this camera because of its looks. I wanted a camera I could have with me all the time, a camera that didn't scare people off, I wanted it to have the main controls right at my fingertips. Exposure compensation right at my thumb, was a must.

After much research and try outs, i found the X100 met my needs. It was still a bit hard to get, because of the horrible events in Japan. But Fuji's well known attention to detail and great experience making lenses for Hasselblad convinced me to buy it. The sexy retro looks, was a bonus :)

The first experience

This is pretty much the X100's effect on people. My Canon 7D make people suspicious, the X100 does this. :-)

I had only had it for a day, when I went to a major music festival, hired to shoot upcoming bands. I went all in, and left my Canon 7D back home, and concentrated fully on the X100.

It soon showed itself to be quite pleasing. The crowd loved it, and it was very easy to get people involved. The 'paparazzi' effect was gone, I was now a one of the guys, instead of the evil photographer, with the big black clacky DSLR.

I had read the manual and watched every single review and hands on tutorial on youtube, to get acquainted with the camera as fast as possible. But I had to do a lot of restarts - it froze so many times, that I was starting to doubt, that this was a good buy. I later figured out, that the single reason it froze, was because I turned the Exposure compensation knob, while the camera saved to the SD card.

Since I stopped that, I haven't had a single freeze.
